Site Description This garden was designed to utilize the sharp change in level between the house and the garden.
The client is passionate about plants and wanted a scheme which enhanced some of the existing specimens already established.
The design centred around a wide flight of steps which lead down to the main garden and directed the eye to the existing central pool and beyond. The steps also linked a series of terraces which provided both large and small sitting spaces.
There were problems with a high water table on site (the garden is almost level with wetland beyond) but once dealt with, the moist rich soil has proved extremely beneficial to the carefully chosen plants and the garden looks and feels lush and verdant.
Lines of pleached Hornbeam run down each side of the house to provide a living, green screen giving privacy to the upper terraces.
